Panthers Warrior Hockey Unites First Responders in Tribute to 9/11 Heroes

“Panthers Warrior Hockey hosted the Always Remember Never Forget Tournament at the Panthers IceDen over the weekend, bringing together first responders for a charity hockey tournament to honor the sacrifices of first responders on 9/11.
The tournament raises funds for the Panthers Warrior Hockey Program through ticket and merchandise sales, a bake sale, and a raffle. The final amount raised was not available at press time.
The organization helps injured, and disabled veterans play hockey and allows them to interact with one another both recreationally and therapeutically…”
Panthers Warriors Team Up With NHL Pros For Fundraiser

There was some star power lighting up the ice at the Rink on the Beach in Pompano Beach as the Panthers Warriors Pro-Am exhibition attracted former NHL alumni and military veterans to raise awareness and funds for injured and disabled veterans.
The pros got an opportunity to show their respect and admiration for the cause and the sacrifices that military members have given to the country. Healing through hockey is one of the mission points for the disabled veterans’ program.

Pompano Beach – For Nicholas Butterworth, nothing gets his mind off Iraq like getting out on the ice.
“I think about Iraq every single day,” said the Iraq War veteran. “I need some release and mentally it [hockey] refreshes me.”
Butterworth, who served four years in the Army, is the co-founder of Panthers Warriors Hockey. The team was created to help veterans dealing with physical or mental challenges stemming from their service. There are about 40 on the team right now.
“It gets you out of the house, gives us a sense of purpose . . . and being with other veterans that have similar issues going on, just getting on the ice is better than anything the VA provides, that’s for sure,” said Butterworth. Read More
